Submission Payments

After our first anthology we went over the payment details and realized that using Draft2Digital to do revenue share was actually bad for our authors, especially those that chose PayPal as their payment method (PayPal transaction fees can eat a lot). We are seeing that authors don’t even make US$5 via revenue share.

So we decided to see if there was a better way.

Based on industry research, we are moving off of the revenue share model.
To be more fair to our authors, going forward Purple Toga Publications will be licensing 1 year of exclusive rights plus reprint rights based on story length.

  • Stories with 5000 to 7999 words will earn that same $5.
  • Stories with 8000 to 12000 words will earn $10.
  • Other lengths, art work, and poems will be on a case by case basis.

After 1 year from publication rights will revert back to the author.

One side benefit of this is that we will be able to do Kindle pre-sales that are not possible via Draft2Digital. It seems that Amazon doesn’t allows pre-sales via partner sites for e-books, just via KDP.
